Head of Engineering - Scaling Technology in a High-Growth Startup

Emergency centers, vital to our society, are often constrained by technology that dates back to the landline era. This presents a stark contrast to our current smartphone-centric, socially connected world. At Prepared 911, we bridge this gap with cutting-edge technology that harnesses the power of Artificial Intelligence to revolutionize how emergency calls are handled. Our innovative technology is providing a suite of tools that significantly boost the capabilities of 911 dispatch centers and first responders. With our solutions implemented in over 800 cities across 48 states, we're positively impacting the lives of approximately 75 million people.

Fueled by a recent $16 million Series A funding from Andreessen Horowitz and support from Gradient (Google’s AI Fund), we're accelerating our growth to become an integral part of every emergency call, reshaping global emergency response for a safer, more responsive world.

Your Role:

As our Head of Engineering, you'll be the technical and strategic linchpin, driving our engineering vision and marrying it with our ambitious business objectives. You'll be at the forefront, building a top-tier engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, and ensuring our technology infrastructure is robust and scalable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Seamlessly integrating technology from development to customer delivery, utilizing go-to-market teams effectively.
  • Hands-On Involvement: Be ready to dive into our tech stack (Ruby on Rails, Go, PostgreSQL) and codebase when necessary.

Who You Are:

  • Visionary Leader: With a track record of guiding teams in a startup environment, you’re adept at building and nurturing engineering talent.
  • Problem Solver & Innovator: You have a keen eye for identifying and solving challenges, continuously driving improvements.
  • Engineering Advocate: You lead by example, emphasizing user impact and product delivery.
  • Curious & Insightful: Your drive for knowledge leads you to constantly seek truths and innovative solutions.

  • Skilled at developing engineering strategies and roadmaps with tangible impacts.
  • Exceptional communicator, balancing product insight and technical expertise.

This is more than a job; it’s a chance to shape the future of emergency response and our engineering culture. If you’re passionate about making a difference, leading teams, and building outstanding products, we’d love to hear from you.
