What we’re building
From sharing our interests to capturing our collective love for nostalgia and documenting what’s in your bag content, taste is becoming the currency of cool and the days of brain rot are over. Recently we’ve entered the age of the thought daughter, a growing movement where we’re less focused on passing trends and instead plugged into our thoughts and who we are as individuals with unique tastes. Amidst a tumultuous world, what’s interesting is no longer about scrolling endlessly or whatever core is trending, instead it’s about what we’re digesting, our feelings and opinions, and what it all says about us as people.
The Opportunity
As a Content Creator, you'll be instrumental in helping elevate our brand, community & social media impact. You’ll create high quality content, support other creators we work with, interact with our growing community and build out Shelf’s brand on social media platforms.
The goal is to establish a presence that can reach millions of users via socials and word-of-mouth.
Responsibilities
You’ll be on camera representing Shelf: it’s important that you’re comfy being on camera and have a distinct online persona (hopefully we can make you Shelf-famous!)
You understand how to create HIGH CONVERSION and HIGH VIRALITY content.
Engaging in trends & cultural moments and helping the team stay on top of them. Including doing hands-on work seeding Shelf in existing communities online and offline.
Giving feedback to other team members around how to make their content more impactful.
Organize and take part in brainstorming sessions to generate fresh ideas to elevate content.
Everyone on the Shelf team is encouraged to contribute to product development - we take culture and social media seriously, so expect to have a dent on our product direction.
Our Team
We’re a small, but mighty team with backgrounds in big tech, as startup founders and as early members at successful startups. We’ve come together around a shared vision and are dedicated to creating important and positive experiences for cyberspace.
Our socials and creative team is made up of some amazing creators with a large online presence! We're well resourced (unannounced rounds) & backed by top-tier investors, including the backers of companies like Airbnb, Pinterest, Snap, and Twitter, as well as the founders of companies like Zynga, VSCO, and Scale and the people behind artists like Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Lorde, Logic, and Panic! At The Disco, and many others. Our team is advised by the founders of Pinterest, Dubsmash (now Reddit), as well as pioneers of digital marketing and market design from Harvard.
This role is remote-friendly, with a preference for NYC folks. We're NY-based, with a spacious studio in West Soho — our full-time team is in-person, as we believe magic happens in person. More about us here.
Ideal Candidate
💡
We recognize that the confidence gap and imposter syndrome might discourage amazing candidates from applying. Every job description is a wish list, so please reach out if this role really excites you.
You’re likely a good fit if you:
You’ve been a creator: You have provable experience being a video creator. You’re comfortable on camera, have developed an online persona or brand, you’re speedy with editing and understand the ins-and-outs of social media platforms. If you haven’t been a creator yourself, you have deep experience working with creators.
You’re on top of internet culture: You know what’s in, and what’s not. You have your finger on the pulse — and can spot a trend from a mile away.
You have creator friends: you have a strong network and experience working with creators in a scrappy environment
Editing & design skills: have an eye for good creative!
Are strategic and analytical: You are comfortable continually assessing Shelf's campaign, content and conversion performance, and translating insights into action.
Want to work hard: This isn’t a ‘big company’ job and we put our heart into our work. You understand that building great companies takes a lot of work, and also know that seed-stage companies can offer some of the most challenging, invigorating, and rewarding experiences. It helps if you’ve experienced the ups and downs of startup life before, but so long as you’re excited for an adventure, we’re excited to have you join.
Looking to learn fast: Social media is unpredictable, and will need to respond to change without running in circles. You should be comfortable adapting rapidly while remaining focused on goal.
Have previously scaled a consumer app or game
Here are some quotes from team members around an aspirational hire:
“Is a tastemaker in their own right!”
“Exudes positivity and infectious energy!!”
“I want to be able to say ‘WOWza how did you come up with that hook?! It’s genius!’”
“Everything they touch goes viral?”
What you'll do
Day 1: You’ll create your first piece of content and get the lowdown on masterplan + roadmap.
Day 7: We believe in learning-by-doing, so you’ll jump right in. You’ll have optimized our socials, and started to establish relationships with some of our influential community members and started to isolate communities you want to target.
Day 30: You’ll be a core contributor! You’ll have a first iteration of a social media and community growth strategy, and be running at a strong cadence leading campaigns, programs and executing on content production. We have an ownership culture, so as soon as you’re familiar with the business and roadmap, we’ll put you in charge!
In the Future: You’ll become a leader at koodos labs, either as a people manager or an individual contributor. We expect the early team to grow into high-impact roles as the company scales.
How we select for the role
We lean heavily on potential and demonstrated ability.
When you reach out, send us examples of posts or videos that are HIGH CONVERSION AND HIGH VIRALITY. Could be personal or brand-work (and we actually prefer personal since most brand work is kinda crappy)
How to apply
If interested, please send us examples of social media work (including any content on personal accounts) to mathilde@koodos.com.
