Estuary unifies CDC, stream processing, and declarative configuration to simplify real-time data movement. The Role: Core contributor to Control and Data Planes; build the high-performance backbone that manages distributed state, ensures sub-second latency, and scales for massive throughput; join a high-trust, collaborative team valuing technical excellence, diverse perspectives, and clear communication. What You’ll Do: Architect & Build — high‑performance components for data plane (stream processing/transport) and control plane (orchestration/state management); Optimize for Scale — profile and optimize primarily Rust systems to minimize latency and maximize efficiency; Solve Distributed Problems — fault tolerance, consensus (e.g., Raft), high‑performance networking; Ensure Correctness — production‑grade, highly‑tested code and thoughtful reviews; Collaborate & Mentor — design docs and reviews maintaining high standards. What We’re Looking For: 8+ years backend development focused on distributed systems or real‑time infrastructure; Systems Programming Expertise — proficiency in Rust highly preferred (Go or C/C++ with desire to master Rust also great); Experience with large‑scale systems handling significant traffic or complex distributed state; Strong Fundamentals — concurrency, memory management, networking (gRPC, TCP/IP); Clear communication; Practical experience valued over formal degrees. Bonus Points: Data infrastructure background (CDC, Kafka, Flink); Open source contributions; Startup grit. Why Estuary: Competitive compensation, equity, full benefits; Flexible remote work; High‑autonomy impact; Quarterly team offsites (Miami, Austin, Boulder, New Orleans).
