People Ops Manager
Allocate
Job responsibilities:
Allocate is modernizing the private markets, making alternative investments more accessible and streamlined for wealth advisory firms and family offices. Backed by leading firms and driven by a mission to remove barriers in private market investing, we leverage over 100 years of collective experience to transform the industry.
As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a People Operations Manager to help us build and refine the HR systems, processes, and culture that support our growing team. We need someone who is both strategic and operational—ready to roll up their sleeves, lay the foundation for a people-first organization, and take charge of scaling our HR functions for long-term success.
You will oversee critical functions, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and compliance, ensuring that HR initiatives support a high-performing and engaged workforce.
What we’re looking for:
You will be instrumental in shaping the company’s HR infrastructure and the overall employee experience. You’ll help build and manage core people operations processes, including payroll, onboarding, performance management, compliance, and employee engagement. This role will also involve working closely with leadership to scale HR practices.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to own the people function end-to-end and contribute to the evolution of our HR strategy in a fast-growing, early-stage company.
What you’ll be doing:
HR Systems & Process Optimization:
Manage day-to-day People Operations tasks, including recruiting, onboarding, payroll, benefits administration, time-off management, and employee records.
Oversee the HRIS (TriNet).
Refine internal processes related to performance reviews, promotions, and compliance audits to ensure consistency and efficiency.
Contribute to building a people strategy that aligns with company growth goals, working closely with the leadership team.
Compliance & Legal:
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and industry best practices.
Collaborate with legal counsel to address HR-related legal concerns (e.g., visas, labor law issues).
Maintain and update internal policies and employee documentation to reflect legal requirements and best practices.
Employee Experience & Engagement:
Own the employee lifecycle, from onboarding to offboarding.
Work closely with leadership to design and implement initiatives that promote employee engagement and retention.
Create programs that foster an inclusive, high-performance culture and enhance team morale.
Manage employee feedback programs (e.g., surveys, 1:1s) and provide actionable insights to leadership on improving the employee experience.
Track and report on key HR metrics (e.g., turnover, engagement, retention) to guide data-driven decisions and foster continuous improvement.
Compensation & Benefits:
Collaborate with leadership to manage and optimize compensation structures, including salary bands, bonuses, and equity offerings.
Own the administration of benefits programs, handling employee inquiries, benefits enrollment, and managing vendor relationships.
What you bring:
Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in People Operations, HR, or a similar role, ideally in a high-growth startup or tech environment.
HR Tools Expertise: Hands-on experience with HR tools and software (TriNet), performance management systems, payroll tools, and benefits administration.
Compliance & Legal Knowledge: Robust understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws.
Data-Driven: Comfort with analyzing data to identify trends and provide actionable insights to leadership on improving people operations.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization and external stakeholders.
Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment—comfortable balancing execution with strategic planning.
Nice to have:
Start-up Experience: Experience working at an early-stage start-up or as part of a lean team at a fast-growing company.
Certifications: HR certifications such as PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar.
Our Values & Culture:
Providing our clients with a world-class experience is our number one priority. We obsessively search for ways to improve the experience for our clients and partners. This requires extraordinary response times, proactivity, and ensuring that everything we do, from product strategy to offline communications, is a top-tier client experience.
Challenge convention: Instead of detailing why an idea may not work, we constantly question things to determine how a viable idea may be implemented.
Commitment to continuous improvement: We find ways to personally scale each day by pushing ourselves up the learning curve.
Meritocracy, not politics: We place the utmost value on results and rewards through merit, not reward actions driven by political agendas or behavior.
Civil Discourse is embraced: Open, intellectually curious conversations are required to make the best decisions. Respect is paramount in our dealings, but our mission is always to get the correct answer collectively.

Location: SF Bay Area (must be able to work from our Menlo Park, CA office 3 days a week or as needed)
